The podiatrist is a health professional who’s presided by the Code des professions du Québec, the Loi sur la podiatrie and the Code de déontologie des podiatres. He can evaluate and treat the foot illnesses with different methods, such as chemical, pharmaceutical, surgical, mechanical or by manual therapy.
The podiatrist has the expertise and the skills to detect complications related to the foot and make the distinction between a podiatric pathology that he can treat, and a disease of the system, which is rather related to physician competence.
In addition to offering advice on foot health and hygiene, the podiatrist can prescribe and administrate certain drugs, complete minor surgeries and prescribe, produce or modify orthotics.
